Microneedling

Contraindications

  • Keloid scars

  • Active eczema

  • Psoriasis and other chronic conditions

  • History of actinic or solar keratosis

  • History of herpes simplex infections

  • History of diabetes

  • Presence of raised moles in area to be treated

  • Scleroderma, collagen or vascular diseases and cardiac abnormalities

  • Blood clotting conditions

  • Active bacterial or fungal infections 

  • Immunosuppression

  • Women who are pregnant or nursing

Pre Treatment

  • Do not use topical agents that may increase sensitivity of skin: retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, acids that may be drying or irritating to the skin (such as AHA, BHA, exfoliating masks, salicylic acids, hydroquinone, and benzoyl peroxide acne products) 5-7 days prior

  • Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil for 3 days prior to treatment. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation

  • No sun exposure, tanning beds, self-tanning products for three days prior to the procedure. Procedure will be canceled if you are sunburned.

  • Avoidance of IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure or sunburn for 2 weeks prior

  • No chemical peels, waxing, depilatory creams or electrolysis to area being treated 5-7 days prior

  • No shaving the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there is dense hair present in the treatment area, closely shave the area the day before you arrive to your appointment.

  • Moles, warts or actinic (solar) keratosis cannot be treated.

  • If you are prone to cold sores, take antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and day of treatment. 

  • Avoid blood thinning agents (aspirin, fish oil, Omega-3, Vitamin E) for 1 week prior.

  • ​If you are planning to receive Botox, make sure that you give yourself at least 2 weeks post Botox injections before receiving your Microneedling procedure.

  • Bring a hat and scarf day of procedure to wear after your treatment.

Post Treatment

  • Do not use any of your own products during this time period

  • NO SUN EXPOUSURE for at least 14 days after procedure

  • NO tanning beds, or self-tanning products for 7-14 days after procedure

  • NO picking or exfoliating

  • NO vitamin A products 7days post treatment (including Retin-A, Retinol, Tazorac)

  • NO chemical peels 14 days post treatment

  • NO shaving 3 days after procedure, if skin is irritated continue to wait before shaving

  • NO sweating, exercising, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam bath until skin irritation has resolved (3-7 days)

  • MUST NOT have any further clinic treatments including facial, microdermabrasion, laser, IPL, chemical peels, or injectables such as Botox or dermal filler for at least two weeks after treatment

  • DO NOT pluck or wax the area at least one week after your Microneedling treatment

  • YOU MAY apply makeup 24-48 hours after treatment. Ensure you are using very clean makeup brushes and sponges for at least 5 days after your Microneedling treatment to avoid the risk of localized secondary infection.

  • USE SPF 50 to protect your skin for 7-14 days after your Microneedling treatment. Additional homecare may be recommended based on your individual needs and desired results.
